Service History
Served as a Doctor with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Malta . Whitehaven News 10 February 1916 Death of Doctor Byers on Active Service Shot Through the Neck On Friday the sad news was received in Cleator of the death of Dr Byers who ......volunteered for service last October . The telegram which came from the War Office briefly stated that Dr Byers was shot through the neck and died from wounds an hemorrhage st St Georges Hospital . The place mentioned in the wire is not very clear ,but it was known that he had been stationed in Malta ; indeed he arrived there two days before Xmas and had been in constant service in hospital there . The last letter received here was from Malta intimating that that he was very busy attending to the wounded in the hospitals but further than this there is no knowledge of where he has been to come by the wounds resulting in his death .
