Service History
Patrick Grant enlisted to the 6th Battalion The Border Regiment, as did a lot of Cleator and Cleator Moor lads. He first saw active service in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Patrick was discharged from the Army as no longer fit for military service on 11 March 1917 and died a few weeks later, on 22 July 1917. The main reason Patrick is not listed as an official war casualty is because he was a discharged soldier rather than a serving one. Patrick was buried in St Mary's churchyard on 24 July 1917, the service being conducted by the parish priest, Father F.C. Clayton, O.S.B
