'The Whitehaven News', Thursday November 7th, 1918 (p.6, col.d)

"Information has been received to the effect that Pioneer Wm. Pearson, R.E., of Bacon's Court, Market Place, Whitehaven has been accidentally killed in England, but details are yet to be learned. Pioneer Pearson, who was about 30 years of age, was formerly in the Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry, and after service in France was discharged on medical grounds 17 April 1915, but after an interval of almost 18 months was recalled to the army and had since been serving with the Royal Engineers. Before rejoining the army, he was employed as a carter to Mr. T. Phillips, wholesale grocer, Whitehaven. He leaves a widow and three children."

'The Whitehaven News', Thursday November 14th, 1918 (p.4, col.b)

"A tragic case of a man who was classed as C1, suffering heart disease, and who died in his bed in camp, was that of a Whitehaven carter, Sapper William F. Pearson. A long account of an inquest on his death appeared in the 'Chepstow Advertiser' of the 9th inst. The medical history sheet taken when deceased was recruited in 1917 was produced and showed the deceased was then suffering heart disease. Deceased had been employed as an acting ganger in the shipyard at Sedbury Camp. It was found that he had died of valvular disease of the heart."
