Roland Fee had joined the Army just before the outbreak of the war (Border Regiment) and was involved in the fighting and subsequent evacuation at Dunkirk. In civilian life before the war Roland Fee worked in the warehouse of the Cleator Moor Co-operative Society.

According to a letter written by his company captain, Roland Fee was killed by an enemy bomb dropped from a great height by a 'sneak raider'. At the time he had been working near his base
